How to change a room by choosing the right lighting

The right lighting is essential for a beautiful atmosphere in a room. Lighting can make the difference between a rather sober and a cozy atmosphere. It can be a statement peace or purely functional. In this post, I’ll show you how to completely transform a room by choosing the right lighting.

Why is lighting important?

Lighting has a huge impact on the atmosphere in a room. The wrong lighting can make a room feel cold and uncomfortable, while the right lighting can make a room feel warm and inviting. Or the other way around, with the right lighting, especially neutral or daylight-like light, you can work and concentrate better, for example. Additionally, poor lighting can even strain your eyes and cause headaches.

Lighting for different types of rooms

Living room

Living room is a room where we tend to relax and spend time with friends and family. So good lighting in the living room should create a cozy atmosphere.

A mixture of ceiling lamps, floor lamps and table lamps is perfect for the living room. Dimmable lamps are best used to adjust the brightness to the mood. If you have artwork or antiques in the room, you can also use targeted lighting to highlight them. What I personally find especially beautiful with unusual works of art.

Bedroom

Bedroom is a room where we should be able to relax and rest. So good lighting in the bedroom should create a soothing atmosphere.

Used there is best indirect lighting to create a relaxing atmosphere. A table lamp on the nightstand or a floor lamp in the corner of the room can help. Glaring light should be avoided, as this can strain the eyes and harm sleep. Especially cold light with a high blue content is not advisable in the bedroom.

Dining room

Dining room is a room where we eat and spend time with family and friends. So good lighting in the dining room should create a welcoming atmosphere.

A pendant lamp or a ceiling lamp to illuminate the dining table is optimal. This can be a statement peace and visually enhance the room, even if the lamp is not lit. Dimmable lamps are best used to adjust the brightness to the mood or time of day. If you have artwork or antiques in the room, you can also use targeted lighting to highlight them.

Home Office

The study is a room where we want to be productive and work with concentration. So good lighting in the study should create a bright and pleasant atmosphere.

A combination of daylight and artificial lighting is ideal for the study. Ideally, you should place the desk near a window, ideally across it, to take advantage of natural light. In addition, a desk lamp with adjustable brightness and color temperature to adapt the light to your individual needs is best.
But a ceiling light with good spatial illumination also makes working easier. Make sure that the light does not glare or cast shadows on your work area to create an optimal working environment.

The right lighting in the study can thus help to increase concentration and productivity. Sufficient lighting around the work area helps reduce fatigue and create a pleasant working atmosphere.

Sustainability and elegance

As a lover of sustainable, elegant fashion and furnishings, it’s important for me to also look at sustainable options when choosing my furnishings and therefore lighting. I use LED lamps because they use less energy and are therefore more environmentally friendly. They also last longer and need to be replaced less often. But I think this is the standard for most people these days. In general, I find that a high-quality lamp can significantly enhance an otherwise plain room. Whether you hang a very simple paper lampshade, for example, or in contrast, an antique rarity made of brass, there are worlds in between. The latter can be a bit of a distraction from otherwise plain and inexpensive furnishings.

For me, lamps have about the same value as art. I like to browse flea markets for lamps or antique stores. But nowadays you can also find exceptionally beautiful lamps online.

Conclusion

Choosing the right lighting can completely change a room. A cozy atmosphere in the living room, a calming atmosphere in the bedroom and an inviting atmosphere in the dining room – all this is possible with the right lighting. Pay attention to sustainability and elegance when choosing your lamps and you will create a space where you feel comfortable.

I hope this post has helped you understand the importance of proper lighting in your rooms. If you have any other tips, feel free to share them in the comments!

Have an enlightening weekend!

All the love
